The Kutinsky name has been associated with legal advocacy for over five decades.

The first in the family to become a lawyer was Leslie Kutinsky, who practiced in Madison Heights, Michigan, for nearly fifty years. “Les” was known for his tireless work on behalf of small businesses and individuals throughout his entire career. Shortly after passing the bar, Adam Kutinsky had the privilege of working alongside Les before his retirement from the practice of law. Tenacious and passionate, Les once tried a case to verdict with Adam assisting as second chair, allowing Adam to witness a master advocate at work. It left an impression.

David Kutinsky was next in the family to enter the legal profession. Attending the University of Michigan during the height of the civil rights movement profoundly shaped David’s trajectory in life and law. After working for the State of Michigan, David moved his family to a small mountain town outside Boulder, Colorado, where he hung a shingle and practiced for decades until retirement. True to the ideals that many abandon after college, David served as a public defender with great pride.
As a child, Adam once asked David how he maintained such unwavering dedication to clients, even those accused of heinous crimes. David’s response left an indelible mark:

“Even if a person is guilty of a crime, our Constitution affords them the same rights and protections as the rest of us. When I represent someone as a public defender, I am protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, not just the accused.”

Both Les and David would each have sons who honored their legacy and became respected, successful lawyers in their own practice areas. In 2000, Adam sat for the bar exam, and directly across the table sat his cousin who would go on to become one of Michigan’s go-to criminal defense attorneys.

Adam began his career as an associate with a respected Michigan law firm. Over the course of a decade, he worked his way up to become the insurance coverage practice leader at one of the largest defense trial firms in the Midwest. While leading the firm’s insurance coverage practice, he attended night classes and earned the prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®) designation. In 2016, he was named Chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan Insurance & Indemnity Section, serving through 2017.

Despite successfully representing many of the largest insurance companies in the country, Adam never forgot the example set by Les and David fighting for their clients like tigers released from a cage. He honored their legacy when he founded KUTINSKY PLLC and made a defining decision to only represent policyholders.

Representing insureds against billion-dollar insurance companies with armies of lawyers may sound overwhelming but not to a Kutinsky. Every day, Adam brings the tireless advocacy, tenacity, and principle that Les and David instilled in him decades ago.
